What You Need to Know Before Getting Dental Implants?

Whether you’re getting complete dentures or partial dentures, dental implants treatments can be a great permanent solution for tooth decay or missing teeth. However, before getting dental implants we’re here to let you know a few things you need to consider.

What are dental implants?

Dental implants are a type of artificial tooth that clinical dental technicians use. They are made from titanium which is then inserted into the jaw bone. Some dentures are removable, however, dental implants are a permanent installation so they look and function like natural teeth.

Dental implants can be used to replace a single missing tooth, or a complete set, and can be used for all ages.

The dental implant process takes time

Dental implants typically involve multiple appointments over several months depending on the patient and the amount of implants required. As a dental implant patient, you want to make sure you are ready for the multiple procedures before you have a glowing smile.

The cost of dental implants

Dental implants are one of the more costly options for those looking to replace missing teeth. As a dental implant patient, you must do your research about how much it may cost you, and assess whether or not it is within your budget. If implants are not in your budget, speak to your technician about it.

Learn about the denture implants procedure

The process for installing dental implants may not be for everyone, and it is important to speak to your clinical dental technician about the procedure so that you are fully aware of what you are signing up for.

If you want a less invasive procedure, speak to your clinical dental technician about some other options.

Research your clinical dental technician

If you are getting dentures, be sure to research your clinic and technician to ensure you are getting the best care. Here are a few things to consider.

  • Education of the clinical dental technician
  • The amount of experience the clinical dental technician has
  • Reviews and testimonials from past patients
  • Check if your clinician has any extra certifications
  • Before and after photos of past clients
  • Enquire and post-op care and follow up appointments

  • Long term solution

Pick suitable dental implants

There are three different types of dental implant procedures you can get if you’re wanting to wear dentures. Speak to your clinical dental technician about the best option for you.

The endosteal technique

This technique involves inserting a metal screw into the patient’s jawbone which acts as a root for the tooth. The implant fuses with the patient’s jawbone over time, resulting in a strong and stable foundation for the artificial tooth to be installed.

The subperiosteal technique

This technique is typically for those with insufficient jawbone for endosteal implants. The process involves installing a metal framework above the jawbone and beneath the gum to create a stable foundation for the crown or bridge.

The zygomatic technique

This implant technique involves the implant to be set in the zygomatic bone as a last resort if the jaw bone isnt strong enough. This is a complex procedure which carries risk, and it is always best to take the advice of your clinical dental technician.

Improve your oral health

If you have poor oral health, you increase the risk of an unsuccessful procedure. The better your oral health, the more chance of a successful procedure. Furthermore, the better your oral health the longer you can keep your teeth so you can save on costly procedures.
