Everything you need to know about partial dentures

If you don’t know much about dentures, it can be difficult to figure out what the best option is for you.

One particular area we tend to get asked a lot about is partial dentures so we’ve put together a list of some of the most commonly asked questions that you might want the answers to.

What are partial dentures?

Partial dentures are a denture with one or more false teeth that are used to fill in gaps around the remaining teeth in your mouth.

How are partial dentures made?

Partial dentures are made by taking impressions of your mouth that are used to create a wax trial denture. Once you have tested the trial denture and made any adjustments for fit or comfort, we then use this wax model to create your partial denture out of chrome, flexible material or acrylics.

What holds partial dentures in place?

Partial dentures are held in place through acrylic or metal clasps that hook onto the remaining teeth and significantly reduce movement in the denture. If many teeth are being replaced with a partial denture, you may also want to consider implant retained dentures that provide additional security.

Why should I get partial dentures?

Partial dentures are used to fill in gaps left by lost teeth. While a major benefit of partial dentures is cosmetic, there are also significant health benefits to getting partial dentures. They make the chewing and digestion of food much easier. Consider booking a free consultation with our clinician to discuss how a partial denture may benefit you.

Without dentures, you risk facing problems with your remaining teeth as they tilt, rotate and shift to fill the gap left by your lost tooth.

Can partial dentures have teeth added?
