What would you change about your smile?

In a survey conducted by Simply Teeth most people (28%) said that if they could change one thing about their teeth it would be to have whiter teeth and 14% said that they wanted straighter teeth.  Only 10% said that they wouldn’t change anything.

Increasingly in the UK people want their teeth to be white and even.  Unlike in the US however, people in the UK are more likely to say that they want a natural smile, not gleaming white teeth that have obviously been whitened.

How important is your smile to you?

In a survey of 5500 individuals conducted by Match.com, 58% of men and 71% of women identified teeth as the most appealing feature their date could possess.

However, a quarter of individuals (25%) in the UK dislike their smile, while an overwhelming majority of three-quarters (77%) express a desire to alter their smile in some manner.

Your smile is one of the most important things about your face and its beauty. In this blog post, we’ll be discussing the importance of your smile, and a few things you can do to improve it, such as:

  • Teeth whitening
  • Quitting smoking
  • Drinking through a straw
  • Getting braces

The importance of your smile

Your smile is more than just a physical feature; it plays a vital role in various aspects of life. A confident smile boosts self-esteem and enhances overall confidence, allowing you to navigate social interactions with ease.

A beautiful smile is often perceived as a sign of attractiveness, contributing to a person’s overall sense of beauty and charm. Effective communication relies heavily on facial expressions, with a smile conveying a sense of a warm, friendly and approachable aura.

Investing in your smile not only enhances your physical appearance but also positively impacts your confidence, you can smile with ease and feel more confident speaking to others, boosting your communication skills and mental health.

How to improve your smile

1. Teeth whitening to improve glow

Teeth whitening offers a quick and effective solution to enhance the appearance of your teeth. Over time, teeth can become discoloured due to various factors such as age, diet, and lifestyle habits like smoking or consuming coffee.

Professional teeth whitening treatments can help to remove surface stains and lighten the shade of your teeth, resulting in a brighter and more youthful smile without breaking the bank!

2. Quit smoking to improve discolouring

Quitting smoking is not only beneficial for your overall health but also plays a significant role in improving the appearance of your smile. Smoking can stain teeth, leading to yellow or brown discoloration that can impact the brightness of your teeth. And of course, besides the aesthetics, quitting smoking can reduce the risk of gum disease, which can result in gum recession, tooth loss, and bad breath.

3. Drink iced coffee and pop through a straw

To minimise the staining effects of coffee and fizzy drinks, consider drinking them through a straw. This simple habit helps to reduce direct contact with your teeth, lowering the risk of surface discolouration. By using a straw, you can still enjoy your favourite beverages while preserving the natural whiteness of your smile.

4. Get braces to straighten teeth

If your teeth are misaligned or have significantly large gaps, consider getting braces. They are an effective orthodontic treatment that gradually straightens teeth, improves aesthetics and corrects bite issues. Whether you have crowded teeth, gaps, or an overbite, braces can help to achieve a straighter and more aesthetically pleasing smile.

5. Get dentures to complete your smile

Dentures are not exclusively for the more mature ages! If you have missing teeth and wish to improve the look of your smile, consider getting dentures. With many options to choose from, such as suction dentures, partial dentures or even denture implants, you can regain confidence in your smile!
