If you are suffering from tooth loss it is likely you have considered dental implants. Dental implants are recommended to patients to replace damaged or missing teeth. They are a long-term, discreet solution that helps to improve chewing ability, speech and restore the smile.
Myth 1: Getting dental implants is painful
The procedure of getting dental implants, much like all oral procedures, can result in some post-operative pain. This pain is often minimal, however, with quick recovery times and little discomfort following the implant procedure. During the procedure, a metal ‘root’ is inserted into the gum. Once the procedure is complete the fake tooth is attached to the implant so that it won’t rest on the gum. This reduces any pain caused to the surgical site. Implant dentures result in less pain than other forms of dentures and a shorter discomfort period.
Myth 2: Dental implants are obviously fake
When created by a professional, dental implants look highly realistic. The implant part of the denture is hidden under the gumline and therefore the only visible part of the implant denture is the false tooth. If created by a professional dental technician using the latest technology, the false ceramic tooth will be indistinguishable from the individual’s other teeth.
Myth 3: I am too old for dental implants
Age isn’t a factor when determining if an individual is able to have an implant denture. Their overall oral health is, however. When looking to have implant dentures jawbone strength and gum tissue health are the main factors in whether implant dentures are a possible option. As long as the individual has healthy oral health their jaw and gums will be able to support the implant and heal well from the procedure.
